I, Nicky, has always been fascinated with this absolutely addictive process of how glass beads are actually made! This passion started at the Glasstec show in 1998 where I stood for ages watching a well known glass bead maker at his task of creating glass beads. I was hooked forever ! I did as much reading and research as possible.
I started purchasing my equipment slowly but surely and eventually I was able start making my 1st glass bead.
What a wonderful experience that was ! I learnt from my books and tried to learn on my own until I discovered an international glass school in Istanbul, Turkey.
This school, like so many of the international glass schools offer a wide variety of glass courses from glass blowing, sandblasting, kiln casting, glass painting and glass bead making. I chose to do the course with and an international glass bead maker, Julie Ann Denton from The Isle of Man.
This course was a wonderful experience for me and it will always stand out as a highlight in my life.
So, needless to say, I am churning out glass beads, trying new techniques all the time.
I've had people wanting to learn from me, so now I am teaching as well. In October 2006 I attended an advanced class in Denmark with Stephanie Sersich which was really a great advantage to my portfolio.
Terry and I visited the gentleman that I stood watching all those years back in Dusseldorf. He and his wife have a lovely studio and gallery in Haan and gave us very special time which we valued tremendously. Thank you Winston Doull |
